Make Your Home More Energy Efficient

Did you know that 40% of all the energy you use is just for heating your home? Follow these simple steps to implement a great money saving energy conservation program.

1. Give Your Furnace The Gift Of A Tune-up!

An energy tune-up will cost you around $50. But, it will increase your furnace’s efficiency by at least 5%. The money you save will pay for the cost of the tune-up in just a few short month! If you use oil heat, your oil company can provide you with a tune-up.

However, if you are paying for a service contract, certainly take advantage of it! This is an easy and inexpensive way to save!

2. The Big Turn Down…

Do you know how much each degree on the thermostat can cost you? Well, for every degree you turn down on the thermostat, you cut your heating bill by 2%. And, believe it or not, for every degree you raise your air conditioner your energy costs get cut by an entire 5%! Definitely, keep that in mind when spring and summer roll around and you decide to crank the A/C up!

3. How To Avoid Wasting 50% Of Your Energy:

Nearly 50% of all the energy you use to heat and cool your home is outright wasted. It goes through the attic, the windows, the floor, the walls, etc. Insulation is the key to reducing your energy consumption. For example, by adding an additional 6 inches of fiberglass insulation to your attic floor, you can greatly reduce your heat loss. Also, a very wise investment for your home would be double even triple pane windows. These windows have been proven to reduce energy bills by as much as 30% in the wintertime!
